MCC offers tips on how to choose a major
On Tuesday, November 16 from 6 to 8 p.m., "MCC's College 101 for Parents - How to Choose a Major" will provide information to parents and their students who aren't exactly sure what direction they should go in or what they want to do.
Manny Contomanolis, Ph.D., assistant vice president and director, Cooperative Education and Career Services, Rochester Institute of Technology, will kick off the evening by discussing the fastest growing jobs in America, workforce trends, skills that employers are demanding, salary levels and choosing the right career.
Sally Barton-Dingee, academic advisement specialist, Monroe Community College, will discuss the pressure many parents and students feel in picking a major. She will talk about why it is okay to begin college as an "undeclared" student and will explain the many available resources that can help narrow the search.
Representatives from two- and four-year colleges will demonstrate how students can attend college without losing credits and still explore different career choices.
The seminar will he held in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center, Monroe Community College's Brighton Campus, 1000 East Henrietta Road. Parking is available in Lot M and M1 at the back of the campus. This event is free and open to the public. Call 585-292-2231 to reserve seats.
