Friends and neighbors invited
to share in Christmas on the Canal
It's time for Spencerport's 9th annual Christmas On The Canal and Candlelight Stroll. A festive time for families, friends, (new and old) and neighbors to get together and take some time from the usually busy and hectic holiday schedules, go back in time a bit, slow down and join the fun filled beginning of this year's Christmas season.
Residents are invited to plan on joining everyone on Union Street between West Avenue and Amity Street, Sunday, December 5. The event begins at 2 p.m. There will be the usual children's activities, the air will be filled with songs sung by church choirs, horse drawn hayrides, food, hot and cold beverages, entertainment by dance studios, school bands, area vocal talent, a live Nativity scene, a nursery school play and visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Several area merchants will be open and street vendors will be joining them. From 3 to 4 p.m. enjoy a Christmas Concert at the First Congregational Church (The White Church), on Church Street.
This year, covered candles and glow sticks will be sold for $1 each. At 5 p.m. the air will be filled with the sound of Church Bells tolling as everyone gathers at the gazebo to be entertained by the Community Chorus. Mayor Ted Walker will officiate over the lighting of the Christmas tree and at 5:30 p.m. the horse drawn wagon will lead everyone on a one mile Candlelit Caroling Stroll.
This event has proven to not only be truly special for all, but much anticipated year after year. A wonderful time for reflecting on what the true meaning and Spirit of the Christmas Season is all about in the company of families and treasured and valued friends and neighbors.
