Hands-on learning
Students at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Career and Technical Education Center participated in the seventh annual youth day held at the Monroe County Dome Arena. The event was sponsored by the Rochester Careers in Construction Corps. Nine hundred students in eighth through tenth grade learned about careers in the construction industry and the concepts behind construction projects for houses, commercial buildings, roadways and bridges. There was a model bridge building competition and a hands-on opportunity to operate heavy equipment. BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education student Jeremy DeWaal teaches Todd Wager (seated) how to operate heavy equipment. DeWaal instructed Wager to pick up one cone and set it on top of another to help him become comfortable with working the controls.
