Bright Raven Gymnastics wins big
On November 13 and 14, seventeen teams traveled from all over New York to participate in The NAWGJ Judges Cup, a gymnastics competition hosted jointly by the National Association of Women's Gymnastics Judges and Bright Raven Gymnastics. After two days of intense competition, Bright Raven's Level 4-6 Compulsory teams won the first place team banner (122.05) and the fifth place Level 7-10 Optional team banner (112.025). Each level of competition consisted of different age divisions for individual event and all-around awards.
Nine-year-old Emily Thomas of Chili, a Level 6 gymnast, won first place on beam (9.35) Thomas earned the second highest floor score (9.40) which contributed to her third place victory for the all around (36.00).
First year Level 5 Kristina Nupp, from Churchville, won the all around competition with a 36.70 in the Senior A division. Nupp, age 11, also finished first on uneven bars (9.00), balance beam (9.65) and floor exercise (9.65). Level 5 teammate Amber Harewood, from Chili, won second place all around with a 36.35. Harewood placed second on uneven bars (8.80), balance beam (9.60) and floor exercise (9.55). Other Level 5 notable victories from the Senior A division include Alyssa Morone from Chili earning third place all around (34.55) and third on uneven bars (8.40) and Emily Arnold from Gates who earned third place on the floor exercise (9.15).
Jamie Gilbert, a Level 5 gymnast from Chili, won the all around in the Senior B division (ages 12 and up) with a 35.55. Gilbert also received second place on vault (9.40) and third place on floor exercise (9.10) Amanda Goldfisher of Greece won second on the balance beam (8.85) and Nicole Bonferraro of Brockport won second place on the uneven bar (8.85).
Helen Zickl, of Batavia, led in the Jr. B Level 4 competition by winning first on vault (9.90), bars (9.00) and all around (37.3). Danielle Adam, from Greece, won third on beam (9.30) in the same division. New addition to the Level 4 team, eight year old Megan Stevens, from Brockport, won first on vault (9.90), second on floor exercise (9.30) and third on beam (8.80) and all around (35.9) in the Children's division. Level 4 teammates in the Senior A division, Lauren Ciranni of Spencerport and Haley Cunningham of LeRoy, also added to the team victory. Ciranni won second on beam (9.15), third on bars (8.30) and third all around (35.45). Cunningham took second on vault (9.40), on floor (9.45) and in the all around (35.60). High scorers in the Senior B-12 and over age group included Melissa Rombola of Spencerport who won first all-around (36.55) and first in floor exercise (9.35), second on bars (8.8) and third on beam (9.4). Hailey Clark of Henrietta won first on vault (9.75) and third on floor exercise (9.15). Lea Ferreri of Chili won bars (9.10). Carly Kreitzberg of Irondequoit took second on vault (9.55) and Laura Mancicchi of Chili was third on vault (9.5).
In the Level 7 Junior division, 13-year-old Alyssa Kober, from Ogden, placed first on bar (9.20) and second on floor (9.35) and in the all-around (36.375). In the Level 8 Senior Division, Jenna Easton, of Chili, took first place in vault (8.75), second on bars (8.675), floor (9.35) and all around (35.725) and was third on beam (8.95). In the Level 9 Senior Division, 15-year-old Justine Picciano, of Henrietta, finished second on floor (9.10) and third on beam (8.825). Teammate Kerry Apeland, of Chili, finished third on bars (8.40).
