Cartons for Christmas

Students at Spencerport's Canal View Elementary School are surrounded by 30 boxes of non-perishable food they colelcted during the Cartons for Christmas community drive to provide holiday baskets for needy families in the Spencerport/Ogden area. Representatives of Student Council, which sponsored the drive, made posters to advertise the event and decorated the collection boxes. Each homeroom (grades 3-5) also helped out one of the primary classrooms (K-2) by bringing in boxes and picking up the donations. "The drive was a real-life demonstration of our character education word of the month for December - caring," said Ed Witkowski, counselor at Canal View.
