Readiness Resources Inc. has appointed Kellen M. MacBeth, a senior at Spencerport High School, president of the newly formed Student Emergency Readiness Board (SERB).

SERB will be comprised of approximately 20-25 students from in and around Monroe County. Their focus will be on disaster/emergency awareness and preparedness. The board will work to improve the community through a series of projects and initiatives. The first project will be providing senior citizens with free 72-hour emergency supply kits.

High school sophomores through seniors are encouraged to participate. For information, contact MacBeth at 594-5262.


Kelly E. Cholewa, daughter of Bertram and Nancy Cholewa, of Spencerport, has been named to the Ohio Northern University dean's list for the fall quarter 2004-2005. She is a sophomore majoring in civil engineering.


Sonya Pegler, a 2002 Churchville-Chili graduate, was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. She is a junior majoring in chemical engineering in the University at Buffalo School of Applied Sciences and Engineering.


Jaclyn Burch, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2007, has been inducted into the Colgate chapter of the national scholastic honorary society of Phi Eta Sigma, which recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of first-year students.

The 119 students who were honored at the fall banquet on November 10, 2004 had earned averages of at least 3.5 during their first year at Colgate. Burch, currently a sophomore at Colgate, is the daughter of John R. and Virginia E. Burch of Hilton. She is a graduate of Hilton High School.


Navy Seaman Christopher A. Eichas, son of Karen A. and Daniel T. Eichas of Hilton, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.


Air Force Captain John R. Volcheck has arrived for duty as the chief engineer assigned to the 554th Red Horse Squadron, Osan Air Base, South Korea.

In addition, the newly promoted captain has also been named as the 7th Air Force Company Grade Officer of the Quarter.

His wife, Caryn, is the daughter of Robert W. and Donna D. Steinmetz of Sherwood Drive, Hilton.

He received a bachelor's degree in 1997 from Rochester Institute of Technology, and earned a master's degree in 2003 from Pennsylvania State University, State College.
