Kendall AP students participate in oratorical contest

The Jewell Buckman American Legion Post 529 in Holley sponsored a High School Oratorical Contest for grades 9-12. Six Kendall students spoke for 10 minutes each on an aspect of the United States Constitution. The students prepared their speeches as an assignment in their Advanced Placement American History class. The six students who completed their oratory in front of judges from the American Legion are Robbie Allen, Nadine Beres, Hannah Billings, Chelsie Cliff, Katie Fisk and Heath Marchand. Seniors Marchand and Cliff scored the highest, which will give them the opportunity to represent Kendall in the Orleans County Oratorical Contest at Albion High School on December 18.

Junior Robbie Allen was selected as the first alternate.

Heath Marchand spoke on the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms, because he said he strongly believes that Americans should have the right to own and safely keep firearms. Chelsie Cliff spoke on the Fifth Amendment. "I want to become an attorney and the Fifth Amendment has a lot to do with people's basic rights," she said.

The last time the Jewell Buckman Post sponsored this contest was in 1991.
