Competition heats up fire safety essays

Two Churchville-Chili students won prizes in the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen's Association (MCVFA) Fire Safety essay contest. Nkasiobi Akpaka, an eighth grader, won second place for her essay, while Caitlynn Berger, a sixth grader was awarded sixth place. Each student received a plaque and a cash award. Their essays were selected from over 1,700 entries as students from schools throughout Monroe County entered the competition. The essays will advance to the next round of competition with the Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association. Those results will be announced in the spring.
