Spencerport's village administrator resigns
After serving for more than four years as the administrator for the Village of Spencerport, Al Scheg has tendered his resignation effective January 31.
"My resignation allows me an opportunity to pursue both personal and professional opportunities," he said. "My immediate plans include spending quality time with my family, taking some post-graduate coursework, working on some renovation projects and pursuing small business opportunities - including providing professional services to municipalities, design and construction firms."
Spencerport Mayor Ted Walker praised Scheg for his dedication to the activities underway in the village.
"Al had a high standard of work quality and was very thorough," Walker said. "He put together great documentation presentations that were very easy to understand and that got the message across very well."
Walker said that Scheg's skills lent themselves to the overall strategic planning of projects as well as the detail work to move them forward.
Among Scheg's accomplishments were:
- The development of the village's geographic information system;
- The promotion of economic development initiatives;
- The preparation of long-term plans and budgets which allow the village to understand its financial position some five, ten and twenty years out; and
- The pursuit of three initiatives that, by themselves, will provide more than $20,000,000 in relief to village residents and businesses over the next 20 years. They are: leasing the water system to the Monroe County Water Authority; contracting with Monroe County Pure Waters to process village waste water; and development of a 30-year street improvement and maintenance plan.
"He has done so much for the village and we're going to miss his expertise," Walker said. "Our intention is to keep all of the programs and projects he started moving forward."
"I have been fortunate to work with some wonderful organizations and individuals on behalf of the village. They include the Town of Ogden, Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce, Monroe County Water Authority, Monroe County Pure Waters, Genesee Transportation Council, and the Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council. I would be remiss if I did not mention the village board, village staff and consultants who helped make my career in Spencerport ... something special," Scheg said.
Scheg said it has been an honor and privilege to serve Spencerport residents and businesses.
Walker said village officials have been working with Scheg on the transition to his vacating the position and that they are looking to fill the administrator vacancy.
