Holding, Trafton score in Blue Devil win
Seniors John Holding and Spencer Trafton each scored third period goals to lead Brockport to a 2-0 shutout over Gates Chili in high school hockey.
The two teams fought to a scoreless tie through two periods, but the Blue Devils had several chances to get on the board. In the second period, Holding took a two-on-one pass from Nick Barton and let go a slapshot that was gloved. Moments later, Jeff Prohaska missed when his shot from the point sailed just outside the goalpost. Late in the period, A.J. Dzaidkowicz had his power play bid hit the shaft of the goaltender's stick and deflect to the corner.
Holding's goal came at the 5:44 mark of the third period when Trafton fed a perfect pass from behind the next onto his stick. The Blue Devils made it 2-0 at the 10:39 mark shorthanded when Eric McJury forced a turnover along the boards on the forecheck and sent a backhand pass to Trafton skating through the slot. Trafton shot the puck through the goaltender's legs for the goal.
Junior Troy LaDue stopped 12 shots in net for the Blue Devils for his third shutout of the season.
Brockport is tied for fourth in the Red Division, just one point out of third and stands seventh in Class A sectional points. The regular season ends this Wednesday for the Blue Devils when they host the Greece Thunder.
