Kendall advances on Batty's 29 pts.
Senior Steve Batty scored a game-high 29 points and added 15 rebounds to lead fifth-seeded Kendall to an easy 65-37 victory over 12th seeded Marion in the first round of the Section Five Class CC boy's basketball tournament.
Batty scored six points in each of the first three quarters and added eleven more points in the final stanza as the Eagles led by 13 points at halftime and 19 after three quarters.
Dan Halter netted 14 points with six rebounds while senior Joe Brightly scored six points. Justin Manners scored six points with 10 assists for Kendall. The Eagles switched to a triangle-and-two defense after the first quarter and held the Black Knights to just 29 points over the final 24 minutes of the game.
The Eagles advanced to play at fourth-seeded Caledonia-Mumford in the quarterfinals.
