Human "Iditarod" to aid tsunami orphans
Students at Roberts Wesleyan College are planning their own Iditarod to raise funds for tsunami orphans. The human dogsled race will take place at noon on March 12 with registration beginning at 11 a.m.
"I thought it would be fun, and it would help all the kids affected by the tsunami tragedy," organizer Jesse Wilson said.
Proceeds from the $10 registration fee, plus any additional donations received, will go to an orphanage in India run by Roberts alumna Michelle Pandian and her husband, John.
The race course, approximately 250-300 yards long, will be run in separate heats to determine the teams entering the finals. Depending on the number of teams, finalists may have to complete three runs of the course.
