D'Errico, List pace Bees
Alyssa D'Errico scored 16 points and Kate List added 12 as Byron-Bergen defeated Campbell-Savona 59-36 in the Class CCC sectional basketball quarterfinals.
The Bees jumped out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter and allowed only two points in the second quarter to lead at the half by 29. They extended the lead to 34 after three quarters before the benches played most of the fourth.
D'Errico knocked down two three-pointers in the first three minutes of the game and added five rebounds. "We were supposed to be a top team in our section this year, but we lost a few close games," said D'Errico. "We started the season strong, but the middle wasn't so good. We knew we should have won more."
Chelsey Fackleman led the Bees with seven rebounds to go with her eight points. Stephanie Cummings scored nine and Jessica Smith four points with Mandy Krol handing out seven assists. The game was delayed with 1:43 left in the first quarter when Kate Mullen apparently suffered a concussion and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
"We passed the ball, we shot the ball and we won," said head coach Rick Krzewski. "This was the way I thought this team could play all season." The Bees lost in the semi-finals to top-seed Avon to end their season.
