'The Exonerated' to be presented by St. Luke's and SUNY
Professional actors and community leaders are coming together to present "The Exonerated" through the efforts of St. Luke's and the Department of Theatre at SUNY Brockport. This documentary theatrical piece shares the true stories of six former death row inmates, told in their own words.
Under the direction of Richard St. George, associate professor at SUNY Brockport's Department of Theatre and St. Luke's parishioner, the result is a chilling look at flaws in the criminal justice system. Criminal justice experts Dick Frey and Allyn Hammel and Bivette Stodghill will offer a panel discussion and lead audience interaction following the production. Panel moderator will be Peter L. Bibby, director of Police-Community Relations of the Center for Dispute Settlement.
Cast members include St. Luke parishioners, theatre department faculty members and theatre students will be involved.
The event is part of St. Luke's Social Ministry Committee's commitment to provide opportunities for reflection on death penalty issues as New York state approaches the 10th anniversary of the reinstatement of the death penalty.
