Lollypop Farm purchases van for pet therapy travel
The Humane Society at Lollypop Farm has purchased a new van for its Pet Assisted Therapy (PAT) Program. The van will be used to make PAT visits year-round, five-days-a-week to more than 90 locations.
The purchase culminates a year-long fundraising campaign. The John F. Wegman Fund of the Rochester Area Community Foundation kicked off the fundraising efforts with a $7,000 grant the Kenlou Foundation and nearly 70 individuals. Dorschel Automotive Group also supported this program by offering a discount on the vehicle.
Dorschel sales manager Frank Citro said, "My mother is in an assisted living facility and she loves it when the animals visit. Everyone in her facility looks forward to it. We are happy to lend a hand to Lollypop."
Staff members and volunteers of the Pet Assisted Therapy program visit more than 6,000 residents in nursing homes, hospitals, children's centers and mental health facilities every year - bringing warm, soft, cuddly pets to brighten the days of all the residents.
