Hamlin Democrats elect new officers
The Hamlin Democratic Committee elected a slate of officers for 2005 on January 26 in the Hamlin Town Hall. The officers are: Richard Marsden of Huntington Park, town leader; Tom Jensen of Harper Park, chairperson; Pam Keller of Walker-Lake Road, secretary; Ida Miller of Shore Acres, treasurer; Jeanine Klopp of Roosevelt Highway, assistant chairperson; Peter Tonery of Moscow Road, assistant town leader.
Outgoing officers include Chairperson Frank DeLapa of West Wautoma Beach Road and Assistant Town Leader Steve Klafehn of Church Road.
"We have enjoyed great success here in Hamlin in the last few years," said outgoing Chair Frank DeLapa. "In 2004, Hamlin Democrats increased party enrollment by nearly 10 percent. At a time when enrollment in other parties is in decline, we have grown. I am very pleased at this success."
Throughout Monroe County, registration in the Democratic Party has increased dramatically. Democrats are now the majority of voters, according to committee members.
"Now we have to translate these votes into public office," said new Town Leader Richard Marsden. "Over the last decade, Republicans have created the biggest debt and imposed the largest tax increase in Monroe County history. They have had total control of the county legislature and still try to blame everybody but themselves for their own fiscal irresponsibility. It's time they were accountable to the citizens."
The Hamlin Democratic Committee meets the fourth Wednesday of each month in the Town Hall. Everyone is invited to attend. The Democrats are also seeking residents interested in running for local office. Anyone who would like this opportunity should attend the next Hamlin Democratic Committee Meeting on March 23 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall.
