Brockport Basketball Booster Club banquet scheduled

Ed Nietopski will be presented the 2005 Bill Corbin Award at the Brockport Basketball Booster Club ceremony. The award is dedicated to the memory of the late Brockport Boys Basketball Coach Bill Corbin, who exemplified the "sport of the hoop."

Nietopski is regarded as one of the nation's greatest basketball coaches and his name is linked to the highest ideal of the sport of basketball. His coaching honors include his induction in 2001 into the Section V Basketball Hall of Fame; in 2002 he was the Section V Coach of the Year and was inducted into the National High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

A Buffalo native, Nietopski began his career as a high school coach/teacher. During his career he has taught/coached at many schools including Brockport. He ranks first in Section V for 545 basketball victories.

"No other individual in Section V history has had as great an impact on the sport of basketball," Tony Liccione, long time basketball booster said. "He is the gold standard to whom all future coaches will compare themselves."

Nietopski and his wife, Betty, reside in Greece. They have seven children and nine grandchildren.

The award will be presented Sunday, March 13 at SUNY Brockport College, Cooper Hall at the annual Brockport Boys and Girls Basketball Awards Banquet. Tickets for the dinner event are $15 per person and may be purchased by calling Liccione at 964-3077.
