Carron named Coach of the Year
Freshman guard Ashley Broadhurst was named tournament MVP as she led Brockport to a 74-67 overtime victory over top-seeded Oswego in the SUNYAC women's basketball championship game and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. It was announced one day later that Brockport would host Alvernia College of Pennsylvania in the first round on March 2.
Broadhurst scored a career high 25 points in the championship game and was joined by Katie Marcella and Kim Schlegel on the All-Tournament team. It was the second SUNYAC title in three seasons for the Golden Eagles.
Alvernia College is making their sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and won the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference this season with a 23-5 record. Brockport finished 18-9 after starting the season 2-7.
In addition, SUNYAC announced that Brockport head coach Michelle Carron was named Coach of the Year. It is the third time she has been recognized (1993, 1997). Carron is in her thirteenth season at the helm of her alma mater and recorded her 200th career victory in the championship game.
