Reynolds attends ribbon-cutting
for new Byron-Bergen athletic course
Congressman helped secure over $110,000 for the project
U.S Representative Thomas M. Reynolds, R-Clarence, attended a ribbon-cutting for the Byron-Bergen Central School District's new athletic ropes course last fall. Reynolds helped secure $110,880 for the project through the U.S. Department of Education's Carol M. White Physical Education Program.
"It's a great pleasure for me to be here for the opening of this new athletic ropes course," Reynolds said. "The Carol M. White program recognizes that it is important for our students to maintain their physical well-being, and works toward that end by better equipping the students and their teachers. We need to be doing all we can to ensure that our schoolchildren are able to reach their potential, both intellectually and physically."
The Carol M. White Physical Education Program provides grants to local educational agencies to assist students in making progress toward meeting state standards for physical education. The grants may be used to train teachers and staff and provide equipment and support to students so that they may actively participate in physical education activities.
Last year, Congressman Reynolds hosted Department of Education grant workshops with the Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Department of Education, Jack Martin. Martin offered local teachers and school officials first hand knowledge of the Department of Education's numerous grant programs, provided participants with advice, and answered questions regarding the application process.
"Having the chance to review the application process and grant program was a tremendous opportunity for our teachers and school officials. The fact that our schools have had such success in obtaining these competitive dollars is evidence that the seminars were effective," Reynolds said.
