SUNY Maritime scholarships available

Assemblyman David Koon (135th District) announced he is accepting applications from eligible students for a full tuition scholarship through SUNY Maritime College.

"This scholarship presents a unique opportunity for students throughout the state to attend this prominent institution and take advantage of Maritime's success in developing tomorrow's responsible, intelligent leaders," Koon said.

Under the Cadet Appointment Program, each member of the Assembly is able to nominate one candidate to receive a four-year full tuition scholarship to Maritime College. To be eligible for the program, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States and have a New York State residency for at least one year
  • Be a high school graduate or within one year of graduation and be a first-time, first-year college student
  • Demonstrate academic excellence with a grade point average at or above 90 percent (3.5) and a combined SAT score at or above 1200 (or equivalent ACT composite of 26 or above)
  • Demonstrate evidence of leadership skills through extracurricular activities and community involvement

Maritime cadets earn their licenses as officers in the U.S. Merchant Marine and with a 100 percent placement rate, obtain rewarding careers in both private and public sectors. Specializing in engineering and science studies, Maritime offers students the opportunity to become part of the oldest and most prestigious maritime college in the nation.
