Bright Raven Gymnastics girls teams win at Niagara Cup, boys qualify for States
Bright Raven Gymnastics Level 4 and 5 Teams captured first place at the 2005 Niagara Cup held at the University of Buffalo Alumni Arena.
Bright Raven had the highest scoring Level 5 team in the meet with a team total of 186.175. In the 9-11 age division, Amber Harewood of Chili won first place all around (37.75), first on bars (9.75), first on floor exercise (9.525) and second on balance beam (9.40). Kristina Nupp of Churchville earned second all around (37.375), second on floor (9.475), third on bars (9.70) and tied with teammate Emily Arnold of Gates for third place on beam (9.30).
In the 12 and over age division, Jamie Gilbert of Chili took first all around (36.70), first on balance beam (9.725), second on vault (9.10) and also tied for first place on floor exercise with Amanda Goldfischer of Greece (8.90). Goldfischer also earned third place on balance beam (9.00). Shannon Fitzgerald of Chili earned second place all around (35.525) and took first place on vault (9.25) and second on bars (9.225). Nicole Bonferraro of Brockport earned third place on two events: vaulting (9.05) and uneven bars (9.15). Additional Level 5 gymnasts contributing to the team win included: Rhiann Korth of Avon, Helen Zickl of Batavia, Mary Whittman of Greece, and Holly Garbacz, Alyssa Morone and Megan Saraceni of Chili.
Bright Raven also had the highest scoring Level 4 team at the Niagara Cup totaling 187.05. In the 12 and over age division, Hailey Clark of Henrietta earned first all around (37.30), first on floor exercise (9.60), first on bars (9.225) and third on beam (9.20). Melissa Rombola of Spencerport was second all around (37.25), was first on beam (9.35), second on bars (9.075), second on floor (9.525) and third on vault (9.30). Laura Manciocchi of Chili was third all around (35.60) and third on floor (9.175). Larissa Filip of Chili took second place on vault (9.50). Leah Ferreri of Chili was third on bars (8.90).
In the 9-11 age division, Haley Cunningham of LeRoy took first place on floor (9.60) and third place on vault (9.65). Rachel Davis of North Chili was second on floor (9.55). Danielle Adam of Greece placed third on beam (9.35). In the 6-8 age division, Megan Stevens of Brockport was third on floor exercise (9.50). Level 4 gymnasts also contributing to the team effort included Audrey Clarke and Carly King of Churchville, Kristina Schiffauer of Greece, Tara Phillips of Spencerport, Lauren Ciranni and Nicole Bell of Gates, Jackie Bowser and Amber Rice of Brockport, Rachel Shire of Chili, Amanda Lee of Pittsford, Jessica Tamol and Carly Kreitzberg of Irondequoit.
On March 6, the Bright Raven Gymnastics Boys Teams traveled to Williamsville to complete in a USAG State Championship qualifying meet. In the Level 4 competition for ages 12 and over, Evan Gooding of Spencerport earned first all around (53.30). In the individual events, Gooding also won first on pommel horse (8.60), rings (9.00), vault (9.50) and high bar (8.80), and was second on floor exercise (8.60) and parallel bars (8.80).
In the 10-11 age division, Nathan Daniels earned four first place awards. He was first on floor (9.10), pommel horse (8.80), parallel bars (9.40) and all around (53.90). On high bars Daniels was second (8.60) and on rings he placed third (8.60). Roy Daniels of Chili was first on high bar (8.70) and rings (8.80). He took third on floor (9.00), vault (9.50) and all around (52.95).
In the 8-9 age division, Luke Pavone of Chili took second place all around (54.20). In the individual events, Pavone placed second on pommel horse (8.60), rings (9.20), parallel bars (9.50) and high bar (9.10). He was third on vault (9.50). Evan Gooding, Nathan Daniels, Roy Daniels and Luke Pavone have all qualified to advance to the Level 4 State Competition to be held in Syracuse in May.
In the Level 7 competition for ages 12 and older, Kevin Kirkland of Greece took first all around and also was first on rings (8.30), vault (9.65), parallel bars (8.00). Kirkland place second on floor exercise (8.60) and pommel horse (7.20).
In the Level 6 competition for ages 10-11, John Fitzgerald of Churchville earned second place on parallel bars (8.70). Kevin Kirkland and John Fitzgerald will compete in their respective State Championships in Rochester this month.
