Gymnast is state champion
Sixteen-year-old Kerry Apeland of Chili earned the tile of New York State Balance Beam Champion at the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Championships held March 12 at Stony Brook University Sports Complex on Long Island. She scored a 9.45 to win first place on beam. Apeland also placed fifth on the uneven bars with a score of 8.875 and seventh of floor exercise with a score of 9.225. In all around competition, she was awarded the third place medal totaling 36.25. Her high all around finish has qualified her to advance to USAG Regionals to be held in Syracuse, April 15-17, where she will compete with top gymnasts from the New England States in addition to New York.
Kerry Apeland is a sophomore at Churchville-Chili High School and competes as a member of Bright Raven Gymnastics Team of Gates.
