Monroe County Workers' Compensation plan members realize savings
The Board of Directors of the Monroe County Municipal Workers' Compensation Plan (MCMWCP) announced a performance based refund to its eligible members in recognition of superior loss performance for the 2004 perform year. The group, as a whole, saved 34 percent in workers' compensation costs over what they were paying in other plans prior to the formation of the MCMWCP in 2004. Several members saved as much as 65 percent over what they paid before entering the program.
The MCMWCP members share insurance and administrative expenses in the plan that developed from an initiative by the Council of Governments to reduce the cost of government to local residents. The program helps members control claims costs through contemporary loss control and claim management practices with improved claim tracking technology.
Local municipalities found they were overpaying, and being surcharged for costs that were developing in higher cost areas of New York state. By basing the program on lower payroll and medical expenses found in the Monroe County area, significant savings could be gained by local governments and agencies.
The program currently has 12 members made up of local towns, villages and other public entities, and expanded rapidly since its formation. Members include the Village of Brockport, Tow of Chili, Villages of East Rochester and Fairport, Town of Gates, Village of Hilton, Village of Honeoye Falls, Monroe County Water Authority, Towns of Ogden and Parma, Village of Scottsville and Town of Sweden.
To determine if your town or village is eligible for the program contact Ken Moore, MCMWCP Chairman, at the Village of Fairport (585) 223-0313, or Dan Powers, Program Administrator, (716) 856-1100.
