Sweden/Clarkson announces
Person of the Year award recipient

The Sweden/Clarkson Recreation Department announced that Monroe County Legislature President Wayne E. Zyra will be the recipient of the 2005 Person of the Year Award. Zyra will be recognized during their Annual Community Awards Banquet on Friday, June 3, in the New York Room at SUNY Brockport's Cooper Hall.

The Sweden/Clarkson Recreation Department's Person of the Year award was created in 1982 to honor an outstanding citizen who demonstrates leadership and devotion to the Towns of Sweden and Clarkson.

Prior to serving on the Monroe County Legislature, Zyra was a member of the Brockport-Clarkson-Sweden Joint Recreation Commission for many years, where he served as Commission Chairman for five years. Zyra was instrumental in the development of the new Sweden/Clarkson Community Center and the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee.

Zyra played an integral role on the intermunicipal committee that explored the feasibility of acquiring an indoor Community Center, which led to the acquisition of the current $3 million facility.
