HAST Swim Club invites newcomers

Hilton Area Swim Team (HAST), a competitive swim club open to those 6 to 18 years of age from the Hilton area, invites newcomers to a five week instructional session. From April 25 to May 27, participants can learn and improve four basic strokes - butterfly, back, breast and freestyle. Interested swimmers can contact Risa Juergens at 392-6608 for information.

During the last two seasons, the HAST organization had to rent pool time due to construction at Hilton's Merton Williams Pool. The club used pool time at Roberts Wesleyan College and at SUNY Brockport which caused longer travel time for many members, higher costs and less pool time. Due to the circumstances, some members dropped out, yet the club continued to have members who posted competitive times. As examples, Mary Juergens, Christie Engle and Morgan Burns qualified for and swam in the Niagara District Championship in Buffalo in mid-March. Burns was selected to represent the Niagara District to swim on the Zone team at the Eastern Championship meet in April.

Members continue to swim year round and practice at Merton Williams pool five nights a week. Those interested in finding out more can call Juergens the number above.
