Brockport wins on eight-run fifth
Brockport scored eight runs in the fifth inning to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 12-5 lead on their way to a 17-6 baseball victory over Churchville-Chili to extend their winning streak to three games.
The visiting Blue Devils scored four runs in the first inning on a RBI single by Eric Toogood, a run scoring error and a RBI groundout by Matt Rath. The Saints rebounded with five runs in the bottom of the inning when Craig Alexander laced a two-out, two RBI single and Mike Korn and Derek Szczupakowski added RBI singles.
The Blue Devil rally in the fifth started with a one-out double to right by Toogood followed by a RBI single to center by Joe Kincaid. Nate Parrino and Rath then laced back-to-back triples before Jake Privitera greeted a new Saints hurler with a RBI single. A.J. Lana and Toogood finished the rally with run-scoring singles.
The Saints' last run came in the fifth on a double by Korn driving in Alexander who had singled.
Brockport added five more runs in the sixth. Two scored on Tyler Mutton's double and John CokePietro, Lana and Toogood added RBI's in the inning to put the game away.
Starting pitcher Seth Wasson went five-plus innings and allowed just five hits after the first inning while striking out seven before giving way to Ryan Campbell in the sixth. Campbell used a great breaking ball to strike out three of the four batters he faced to finish the game and even the Blue Devils record at 3-3.
