In celebration of Arbor Day
It was a day of celebration Saturday, April 30 when Town of Riga and Village of Churchville residents ignored the rainy, cold spring weather and set to work planting trees in their community. This photo captured a moment when workers stood back to admire their work. Gathered around a newly planted Purple Beech tree are (back row) Churchville Village Board members Shawn Casey, Scott Cullen and Nancy Steedman; and Al and Sandy Cullen. In front, Erin Casey, Nick Rugelis, Jamie and Lily Cullen and Shannah Rugelis. The tree is the first in the Heritage Collection to be planted in Creekside Cemetery. According to Trustee Steedman, the village plans to add a tree every year. Riga Town Board member Pam Moore said the idea for the Arbor Day celebration grew out of input the town received from the community while working on the comprehensive plan.
