Northern Lights District
to honor outstanding scout leaders
At its annual meeting on May 16, Northern Lights District will honor a number of its Scouters for their continuing service to youth.
Selected as its 2005 Cub Scout Leader of the Year is Cubmaster Geoff Woerner of Smith Warren Post American Legion Pack 140 of Scottsville. Named as Boy Scout Leaders of the Year are Scoutmasters Mark Juba of Bethany Presbyterian Church Troop 240 and George Strick of Walt Disney School Parent Organization Troop 327, and Assistant Scoutmaster Craig Purdy of Parish Council of St. Mark's Church Troop 278 of Greece. Sharing honors as Commissioners of the Year are Assistant District Commissioners Kenneth Rombaut of Brockport and Donald Hensel of Greece, Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner Bruce Katz and Unit Commissioner Donald Bennett of Greece.
The following have been named as Unit Scouters of the Year: Committee Member Elaine Deacon of Friends of Scouting in Scottsville Troop 372 and Assistant Scoutmaster Davin Houle. The following were named Unit Scouters of the Year: John Knox Presbyterian Church Troop 197; Committee Member Danielle Lambert of Bethany Presbyterian Church Troop 240; Committee Member Dan MacEwan of Brockport Rotary Club Troop 111; Assistant Scoutmaster Edward Newhart of Chili Lions Club Troop 292; Assistant Scoutmaster David Pratt of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church Troop 157, who also serves as Cubmaster of Pack 157; and Webelos Den Leader Danielle Woodland of Autumn Lane Elementary School Pack 282.
The awards will be highlighted by the presentation of the Northern Lights District Award of Merit, honoring three local Scout leaders for their service to youth through leadership of western Monroe County Scout units, to Charter Organization Representative Kenneth Graves of Our Mother of Sorrows R.C. Church Pack and Troop 130, who also serves as a Unit Commissioner; Assistant Scoutmaster Steven Mangiafesto of John Knox Presbyterian Church Troop 197, who also serves as Cubmaster of Autumn Lane Elementary School Pack 282; and Assistant Scoutmaster Douglas Taylor of Spencerport Assembly of God Troop 04; and Edward Newhart of Chili.
