Adam's Basin bridge up until 2007
Travelers down in the Adam's Basin (Route 36) area in the Town of Ogden will be greeted with a detour from now until June 2007.
The bridge, originally built in 1912, will receive a "major rehabilitation" beginning this summer, Lori Maher, public information officer for the NYS Department of Transportation said.
"The truss portion of the bridge has deteriorated and steel beams will have to be replaced," she said. "A new deck system will be installed and some concrete elements of the bridge substructure will be removed and replaced."
Maher said the electrical and mechanical lifting system including the machinery and motors will be removed and replaced. The control tower and the approach roadway will be rehabilitated.
"We anticipate beginning work in early August and completing in June 2007," Maher said.
In the past the bridge has been open to vehicular traffic in the winter months but that will not be the case this year, Maher said. "It's going to stay closed until the project is completed."
The final phase of the project will include the painting of the structure.
