Spencerport school board election now has five candidates
Two incumbents and three write-in candidates are seeking election to the Spencerport Board of Education. Voters will be asked to choose from the five potential board members to fill three open seats. (There may be more write-in candidates, but at press time three had announced their intentions to this newspaper).
Incumbents David Dorofy and Laura McFarlane are seeking re-election.
Incumbent Christine Geen decided not to seek re-election this term.
Dennis Dupree, Jackie Lobene and Linda Van DerStarre have announced their intentions to seek election via write in votes. (See Letters to the Editor/Opinion page in this issue).
Because there are three seats open, a voter could vote for three write-in candidates.
According to the Monroe County Board of Elections, all voting machines have a red sticker on the upper left of the machine indicating where the write in slots are located. A lead pencil is located in the booth for the write-ins.
If a voter wishes to cast a write-in they must:
1) Locate the write-in slots across the top of the machine. There is a slot for each column for each office to be elected.
2) Open slot for the desired column by pushing slot cover upwards. Once the write-in slot is opened, voting by lever in that column will not be possible.
3) Write in the candidate's name
4) It is not necessary to close a write-in slot before exiting the voting booth. It will close automatically when the curtains are opened
5) If a voter needs help casting a write-in vote, an inspector may accompany the voter into the booth to provide assistance before the curtain is closed but the inspector must exit the booth before the person votes.
