Ginther Elementary receives high honors
Brockport's Ginther Elementary School has been designated as a high achieving school for English language learners (ELL) by the NYS Education Department.
Ginther is the only school in New York state where 100 percent of the English language learners increased by at least one proficiency level on the NYS English as a Second Language achievement test.
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Ginther includes students from varying backgrounds. The majority of the students speak Ukranian or Spanish, but there are many other languages including Japanese, Chinese, Portugese, Latvian, Russian and Moldavian. Students are taught using a variety of learning experiences to build language competency. Lessons are theme-based and include using rhymes, poems and pictures.
