Trolley station on the move
The trolley depot in the Village of Spencerport is being moved from its location on Amity Street Extension to a site adjacent to its original location when it was a working depot.
It was originally located where the power station is at the north side of the Village Plaza. The tracks ran up West Avenue and there are still places where the old tracks are visible beneath the street's blacktop.
The depot was moved to Amity Street to be renovated as a private residence and was a home from 1946 to 2002. It was unrecognizable as a trolley station until a team of community volunteers began work to restore it to its original state.
The restored depot will be used as a visitor information center and will house restrooms and shower facilities for visitors and canal travelers. It will also be utilized as a museum of transportation and communication and a satellite library of the Ogden Farmers' Library.
The depot will be moved Monday, May 23 beginning at 9 a.m. It will move down West Avenue, cross Union Street then be backed into place at its new site.
