New Spencerport Middle School principal named

Michael M. Canny has been named by the Spencerport Board of Education to become the new Principal of Cosgrove Middle School on July 1. Canny is currently the principal at Red Jacket Middle School in the Manchester-Shortsville Central School District in Ontario County. He will replace Spencerport's current middle school principal, Bonnie Seaburn, when she takes on her new position as Spencerport's Director of Staff Development.

Canny is a graduate of Keuka College where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in social studies education. He earned a master of science degree in education from Elmira College and a certificate of advanced study from SUNY College at Oswego.

Canny started his career as a social studies teacher at All Saints Junior High School in Syracuse and then joined the Manchester-Shortsville School District in 1991. He was named director of Pupil Personnel Services in 2000 and the following year was appointed middle school principal.

"Mike brings classroom skills, middle school leadership experience and a great deal of enthusiasm to this position. He will be a worthy successor to Bonnie Seaburn," said Phillip W. Langton, superintendent of schools.
