Spencerport names new school district superintendent

The Spencerport School District Board of Education has selected Mary Anne Kermis, superintendent at Holley Central School, as the new district superintendent to start July 1. She succeeds Phillip W. Langton, who is retiring June 30.

"Selecting Mary Anne was truly a collaborative process," said Laura McFarlane, board president. "We appreciated, valued and considered the input from all staff and community members involved in the process. We expect to be working closely with Phill and Mary Anne during the next few months to ensure a smooth transition."

The board expects to formally appoint Kermis at the next board meeting on Tuesday, May 24. Kermis, who lives in East Amherst, joined Holley as superintendent in 2004. Prior to that, she spent three years as assistant superintendent for human resources in the Kenmore School District in suburban Buffalo, where she also had spent 10 years as principal of the Benjamin Franklin Middle School. According to Spencerport school disrict representatives, the school was named ta National School of Excellence Award Winner during her tenure there. She also spent five years as assistant principal at the Franklin school. From 1972 to 1986, she was a math and science teacher at North Tonawanda and East Aurora districts. She earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Daemen College in Buffalo and master's degrees in chemistry and educational administration from Canisius College.

"My family and I are so excited to be moving to Spencerport and we are just thrilled to become part of this outstanding community. The district has such a great reputation and I am so honored to have been selected by Spencerport," she said.
