Rangers lose in semi-finals
After winning just three games last season (the most the team had ever won in its brief existence), Spencerport's varsity girl's lacrosse team not only improved to 12-5 this season, they took home a share of the Division III championship. Their storybook season came to a close with a 14-11 loss to Pittsford in the Class A Section V playoff quarterfinals.
The Panthers jumped out to a 4-1 lead before the Rangers, following a time-out, rallied on goals by Katherine Kalamaroff, Jennifer Alessi and two by Dana Chubb to pull to within one goal at 6-5 just prior to half-time.
Stephanie Snyder, Alessi and Kalamaroff scored for the Rangers in the first 10 minutes of the second half to again pull the home team to within a goal of the lead. The Panthers then started winning the loose ball battles and scored four consecutive goals to build a five-goal lead. Spencerport's Chubb scored three goals over the final eight minutes, but it was too little too late as the season came to a close.
Chubb finished the game with five goals while Alessi added three goals. Heather Dorofy made 13 saves in net for the Rangers. Maggie Levine led all scorers with eight goals for Pittsford.
Seniors Alessi, Chubb, Lauren Hochreiter, Kalamaroff, Emily Knight, Christina Mangione, Katelin O'Connor, Lauren Parkhurst and Tricia Zambito all suited up for their final high school athletic contest.
