Mobile Fire Unit teaches students about burn prevention
Hilton Fire Department's Mobile Fire Safety classroom had its inaugural use recently with students from Mrs. LaDue's first grade class in the Hilton Elementary School as participants. The mobile unit is designed to teach children burn prevention and vital fire escape techniques. It was purchased through a $20,000 grant obtained by New York State Assemblyman Joe Robach and $8,000 obtained through donations. The plan was to give demonstrations to a first grade class, then a kindergarten class the next day and a week later to students at the Quest School. The program is run by Captain Don Harter under the leadership of Deputy Chief Eric Guest.
