Hilton Middle School to dedicate library media center
Students at Hilton's Merton Williams Middle School are hosting a celebration in honor of their former librarian, Dr. Lorraine Sherwood, who died unexpectedly after retirement in 2003. On Tuesday, June 21, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., students, friends, colleagues and community members will gather in the new library at the middle school to dedicate it in her memory.
"Dr. Sherwood served the Hilton School District for 28 years," Merton Williams Middle School Principal Carol Stehm said. "Dedicating the library in her honor makes perfect sense."
Dr. Sherwood was both a library/media specialist as well as a REACH teacher for academically-gifted students. She was a member and state officer of the educational society, Delta Kappa Gamma/Alpha Alpha Chapter. Donations of $5,500 to help further library purchases from both the Alpha Alpha Chapter and Sherwood's family have been presented to the district and are in a trust fund. All students, former students, teachers, parents and community members are invited to the reception and dedication. For information call 392-1000 extension 3105.
