announces boating safety certification classes
The Orleans County Sheriff's office, in partnership with the United States Power Squadron, will offer Boating Safety Certification classes on the following dates: June 13, 15, 20 and 22; July 11, 13, 18 and 20; and August 15, 17, 22 and 24.
Classes will be held at the Carlton Fire Department Recreation Hall at 1853 Oak Orchard Road (State Route 98). Classes run 6 to 9 p.m. and you must attend all four classes in a session to be certified.
As of January 1, 2004, all persons regardless of age who operate personal water craft on New York state waters are required to have certification. Persons under the age of 18 who operate a boat without adult supervision are also required to have this certification. The certification is valid in all 50 states and Canada.
There is a $20 fee payable to the United States Power Squadron. The fee covers the cost of the book. Two people attending together may share a book.
