Transit Road bridge in Orleans County closed

The New York State Department of Transportation closed the Transit Road bridge over the Erie Canal in the Town of Murray to all traffic on Friday, June 17.

The one lane, historic bridge, built in 1911, is showing advanced signs of deterioration. The bridge has been posted to carry a maximum weight of five tons to extend its service life.

Motorists should use the Hindsburg Road bridge to the east as a detour. The Densmore Road bridge is another choice to the west.

The bride will remain closed until a project to fully rehabilitate is undertaken. The anticipated construction date is 2007.
