Holley fair promotes
education and safety

On Saturday, June 11, Holley Karate presented the Third Annual Safety & Prevention Kids Fair. Senator George Maziarz was on hand to meet the nearly 200 children and parents who turned out for the event. Through a special grant, Senator Maziarz secured $1,500 that he presented to Sempai Larry Quaranto, the founder of the Safety & Prevention Kids Fair and owner of Holley Karate.

Quaranto, certified by the National Security Alliance in Child Danger Awareness, conducted the seminar explaining the importance of understanding what a predator and stranger are and what should be done if a child find themselves in a threatening situation. Quaranto and his students demonstrated a wide range of Karate skills. Officer Dave Sevor was on hand promoting the D.A.R.E. program while the Holley Fire Department provided the kids with a variety of fire prevention information. The children received a look at the fire prevention suits used by the firefighters as well as tips on what to do in the event of a fire. Laidlaw Educational Service provided a Talking School Bus that entertained as well as educated the kids on bus rules and safety.

The money provided by Maziarz, in addition to the funds donated by numerous local businesses and individuals, went toward the purchase of the Safety & Prevention Kids Fair t-shirt given to each child as well as an assortment of door prizes.
