Churchville-Chili teens collect pop tabs for Lakeside
On a visit to see her grandmother at Lakeside Memorial Hospital, Morgan Ward noticed the collection box for Lakeside's Pop Your Top campaign, and an idea was born. Together with students and friends, Brandy Oliver, Kaitie Zaffuto and Jenna Steinmiller, they formulated a plan that included running a competition in the Churchville-Chili school to see who could collect the most pop can tabs. They offered prizes of a mall certificate and candy that were purchased from their own pocket money. The students collected 15 one-gallon containers of tabs.
The ongoing "Pop Your Tops for Lakeside" drive encourages people to save their pop and beer can tabs for recycling. Proceeds from their sale are given to Lakeside Twig Association who in turn donates the funds to the hospital for purchase of medical equipment.
