Midwestern agricultural district
review public hearing August 1
Monroe County's Midwestern Agricultural District, located in the Towns of Sweden, Ogden and Riga, was created in 1973 and is currently under review. As part of this process, property owners had the opportunity to request that their land be added to, or removed from, the district.
The Monroe County Legislature is holding a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 1, at the Ogden Town Hall, 269 Ogden Center Road, Spencerport. Comments will be accepted that concern the existing district, the proposed modifications (adding seven parcels containing 397.8 acres and removing three parcels containing four acres), and the recommendation of the Agriculture and Farmland Preservation Board and the Monroe County Planning Board to continue the district with the proposed modifications.
Article 25AA of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law, titled Agricultural Districts, provides counties with the opportunity to create agricultural districts for the purpose of protecting and promoting the agriculture industry.
Individuals should call Rochelle Bell, Monroe County Department of Planning and Development, at 428-5464 with questions and comments.
