New doctor joins Lakeside's OB/GYN staff
Dispelling rumors that Lakeside was going to close its OB department, it has appointed Vanessa E. Junor, DO, an obstetrician/gynecologist, to its staff. Junor will begin caring for patients on August 8 at her office located in Suite 104 at Lakeside's Physicians' Office Building at 156 West Avenue. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 637-9060.
Junor's appointment to Lakeside's medical staff will benefit patients in Brockport and surrounding communities because women appreciate the comfort and security of giving birth close to home and receiving pre- and post-natal care in their own community, according to hospital officials. In addition, laboratory and women's radiology services including ultrasound, mammography and bone density scanning are located on the Lakeside campus. Lakeside's Mammography Department boasts the highest rating bestowed by the MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) for five consecutive years, according to Lakeside spokespersons.
Junor joins a team of medical professionals including obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Robert C. Boon, along with many family practitioners who hold delivery privileges at Lakeside. In addition, two Certified Nurse Midwives, Catherine A. Burke, CNM and Mary Maher, CNM offer midwifery care through Oak Orchard Community Health Center.
Lakeside also offers a full spectrum of care including infertility, laparoscopic surgery, female urology, hysteroscopic surgery, laser surgery, mammography, Dexascan (bone density scanning) and ultrasound.
"In response to the outpouring of support from our community to continue Lakeside's OB Department, we are concentrating our efforts to recruit additional OB/GYN physicians," Kevin C. Nacy, Interim President of Lakeside Memorial Hospital said. "Lakeside is moving forward with its renovation project to modernize the OB Department within the upcoming year."
Junor attended New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York graduating with honors in obstetrics/gynecology as well as in pathology. She completed an internship at St. John's Episcopal Hospital and moved to Philadelphia to complete her OB/GYN residency at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and served as chief resident. She is board eligible.
