Area teammates summer baseball all-stars
Andrew Parrino and Phil St. Amant were teammates with the Brockport Blue Devils baseball team in high school. After graduating, St. Amant committed to play baseball at the University of Connecticut and, one year later, Parrino decided to play at LeMoyne in Syracuse. St. Amant joined Parrino at LeMoyne when he transferred after his freshman campaign. This summer, both are playing in NCAA sanctioned summer baseball leagues and both were chosen all-stars.
Parrino has started all but one of the first 41 games this summer for the Manchester Silkworms in New Hampshire. The team was in second place in the Southern Division. They are part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, which was founded in 1993 and is designed for NCAA players with at least one year of college baseball experience and at least one year of eligibility remaining. The league has produced major leaguers such as Joe Nathan of the Minnesota Twins along with pitchers Matt White and Chad Parronto.
While playing shortstop, Parrino was leading the Silkworms in runs scored, hits, walks and stolen bases and was second on the team in batting average and total bases. Defensively, he led the team in assists and was third in fielding percentage. He was selected to the all-star team as the second-team shortstop and played the final four innings of the game played in Newport, Rhode Island.
St. Amant is playing with the newly formed Genesee Valley Riverbats of the New York Collegiate Baseball League and was named to the West roster as one of the All-Star catchers. St. Amant was leading the Riverbats in batting average, doubles and slugging percentage while starting all but four of the first 31 games this season.
He is joined on the team by Hilton graduate and current Boston College left handed pitcher Nick Napolitano. The Riverbats have played their home games at SUNY Brockport's college baseball field.
The NYCBL has produced such major leaguers as Tim Hudson of the Atlanta Braves and Terry Tiffee, who has spent time with both Rochester and Minnesota this season. The West division features teams from Alfred, Geneva and Hornell, among others.
