Cell phone 'do not call' registry available

Assemblyman Bill Reilich (134th District) reminds residents to protect their cell phone numbers by registering them with New York's Do Not Call registry. The state's registry, which prevents unauthorized telemarketing calls, was created in 2001 and has become a model for similar programs nationwide.

The registry recently expanded to include cellular phones.

"I encourage all New Yorkers to take advantage of the recent additions to New York's Do Not Call registry," Reilich said. "This registry has already been very successful in halting these annoying and unwanted calls. The expansion of this law is great news. I know I will be registering my family's phones."

Residents wishing to register their cellular and home phone numbers may call the Federal Trade Commission toll-free at (888) 382-1222 or visit www.DoNotCall.gov. Individuals whose numbers are already registered may file complaints and report violations via the website.
