Lindsay Ehrmentraut

Citizenship Award presented

Lindsay Ehrmentraut is the second recipient of the Riga Republican Committee's Citizenship Award. Ehrmentraut, a 2005 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, will be using her scholarship funds towards her education, including books and tuition, at SUNY Brockport.

Ehrmentraut will be pursuing a degree in education, to become a special education teacher. She chose this career path following internships at Monroe Community Hospital's Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Center, where she worked with patients who needed to regain their mobility and strength from injuries sustained, and subsequently at Mary Cariola's Children's Center, where she worked with elementary and middle school children with special needs, and physical and mental challenges.

Ehrmentraut has been a member of the National Honor Society, participated for four years on the Churchville-Chili swim team, chorus, 4-H Club, and has been involved in the Churchville Fire Department's Explorer Post, as well as various other activities. She is currently working at the Westside YMCA as a lifeguard/swimming instructor, and has previously taught swim lessons through the Riga Recreation program.

Ehrmantraut was chosen by the committee following a review of her educational achievements, community involvement, volunteer service, excellent references, and submission of an essay about how "One Person Can Make A Difference." She received the $500 scholarship late this summer and was honored at the Riga Republican Committee's annual steak roast held on September 10.

The Citizenship Award was available to all Town of Riga residents who were between the ages of 16-21. The Citizenship Award could be used for educational travel, training, education, trade tools, or personal improvement.
