Spencerport residents volunteer at children's home in Peru
Spencerport residents Peter Schmidt and Terri Spitz-Schmidt and 16 other individuals spent two weeks in late July and early August volunteering on child care and construction projects at Puericultorio Perez Aranibar (PPA), a children's home housing 500 youths. Situated along the oceanfront in Lima, this former government compound now is home for orphans and youths from troubled homes.
While Peter painted and tiled the facility's dining hall, Terri taught English to teenage residents and provided art lessons to younger children. They also participated in the "dulces suenos" program, in which the volunteers individually bid the children goodnight each night.
