Gemerek, Miller pace Hawks

Eighth-grader Melanie Gemerek was the top female finisher and senior Abr Miller the top male as Holley hosted their only cross country meet of the season at Andrew Cuomo Canal Park.

Gemerek finished 18 overall with a time of 28:58 in the girl's division followed closely by teammates Carey Cook (19 in 29:03), Jessica Kunker (20 in 29:04), Julia Hansen (22 in 29:36), Jen Smith (23 in 29:44) and Amanda Montgomery (24 in 29:57).

The girls finished 1-3 in the five-team meet defeating Batavia Notre-Dame 49-15 and losing to Geneseo, Caledonia-Mumford and Alexander.

For the boys, Miller completed the 3.1 mile course in 19:06 - good for 10th overall. Teammates Matt Welch (16 in 20:49), Justin Thomas (19 in 22:32), Shawn Iachetta (20 in 22:35) and Kenny Ryan (22 in 23:09) enabled the Hawks to squeak past Batavia Notre Dame 28-27 and beat Caledonia-Mumford 48-16 to finish the meet 2-2.
