Tri County Eagles Pee Wee Minor
AA Travel Team wins Fall Out Ice Hockey championship
The PeeWee Minor AA hockey team won their first tournament of the year hosted by the Rochester Red Wings at the Skating Institute of Rochester (SIR). The tournament included six PeeWee Minor AA Travel teams from the Buffalo and Rochester areas.
On Friday, September 30, the team played to a 3-3 tie against the very competitive Depew Saints. After falling behind 1-0 at the end of the first period, the Eagles tied the game on a goal from Tyler Hill. The Saints regained the lead late in the second period, 2-1, only to have the Eagles storm back in the third period with goals from Nathan Judd and Tyler Hill to take a 3-2 lead. With just under three minutes to play, the Saints tied the score and the game ended a 3-3 tie.
On Saturday, October 1, the Eagles won their first of two games that day with an impressive 4-0 shutout against the Rochester Youth Americans. Jim Fallon recorded the shutout and was assisted by the fine defensive play of Mike Knapp, Sean Mahoney, Ben Madafferi and Zak Coughlin. Ron Zorn opened the scoring for the Eagles, while Tyler Hill scored twice and Zak Coughlin wrapped up the scoring for the first win of the Tournament. Also, Jeff Knapp played well in his role as a specialist playing defense and forward for the Eagles.
In the second game, the Eagles spotted a very physical Buffalo Regals squad an early 1-0 lead in the first period. Nick Piano notched the Eagles first goal early in the second period and later Tyler Hill scored to give Tri-County a 2-1 lead after two periods. Then Connor Moore scored an unassisted power-play goal early in the third period and the Eagles hung on for a 3-2 victory. The win propelled the team into Sunday's semi-final game against the host team, the Rochester Red Wings.
On Sunday, October 2, the first period was a defensive struggle and ended with no score between the Eagles and the Red Wings. The second period was much different as the Eagles scored three goals, two off the stick of Tyler Hill and one by Carson Cavers to end the second period leading 3-2. The Red Wings came back in the third period to tie the game until Ron Zorn's goal with a nifty assist from Connor Moore won it for the Eagles.
With the win, the Eagles would face off in the Tournament Championship game against the Depew Saints. On Sunday, the Eagles welcomed back Paul Kysor to the line-up after an illness. This time with the added manpower, the Eagles scored four goals, the fourth goal being scored by Mike Walton to end the game with a 4-1 victory and the 2005 Fall Out Hockey Tournament Championship.
Coaches are Chris Zorn and Tim Coughlin. Lori Wilson and Chuck Knapp are managers.
