Teacher Leaders encouraged at Byron-Bergen
Ten educators from the Byron-Bergen Central School District participated with teachers and administrators from across the region in a workshop led by national consultant Charlotte Danielson on "Teachers as Leaders." The day-long session focused on the skills and dispositions of teacher leaders and the culture of a school that facilitates teacher leadership.
According to Danielson, "In an era of ever-growing complexity of our educational mission, the role of teacher leaders - and their expertise - is recognized to play a critical part in school improvement." Danielson is the author of several best-selling books, including Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching.
The interactive workshop differentiated teacher leadership from other concepts of leadership and offered guidance for aspiring leaders to cultivate and demonstrate their emerging competencies. Byron-Bergen participants were Marcy Battaglia, Dan Bedette, Donna Conway, Jane Duval, Greg Geer, Mary Harrison, NancyJean Osborn, Loren Penman, Art Rohe and John Tomidy.
